LCVP

 

The LCVP is designed as an add on to the existing Leaving Certificate, to prepare students for life after second level education.

 

Who is eligible to apply for a place in the program?

Students at Mean Scoil Mhuire that study 7 Leaving Certificate Subjects including French or Spanish are eligible to apply to do LCVP. Also two of the seven subjects must be selected from the one of the following groupings.

Skills Set

Skills Learned through the Link modules, such as planning, researching, report writing, making presentations and meeting deadlines give students an important skills set for 3rd level success.

 

LINK MODULE 1: PREPARATION FOR THE WORLD OF WORK

This module is designed to develop student's general understanding of the world of work, to introduce them to career research and to provide them with the knowledge to find employment. As part of this module each student is expected to compile a C.V. complete a career investigation and engage in a work experience or work shadowing placement.



LINK MODULE 2: ENTERPRISE EDUCATION

This module aims to develop creativity, resourcefulness, self-confidence and initiative. Students are encouraged to interview enterprising people, investigate local enterprises and to set uptheir own enterprise projects as vehicles of learning. The content of this module is flexible to allow a school to utilise local resources and to enable learning to take place in as wide a variety of settings as possible.



LINK MODULES INFORMATION BOARD IS LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF 2nd YEAR STAIRS. THE BOARD IS REGULARLY UPDATED.

 

ASSESSMENT

The LINK MODULES are treated as a unit for assessment purposes. Assessment which is at common level comprises two elements:

1. A portfolio of coursework worth 60% to be submitted 2 weeks prior to exam
2. A written examination worth 40%, timetabled for the first week of May in Leaving Cert year.


 

Certification

The students studying the link modules receive the same cert as the other Leaving Certificate students plus an additional statement of the results of the Link Modules. The Link Modules are recognised in the point's terms by the Universities and institutes of Technology. Points awarded for the Link Modules can be used as a 6th Subject for CAO point's purposes.
