Admissions Procedure

In keeping with the Mercy commitment to the education of young women and the care of the under privileged, our enrolment policy is as follows:

  • Parents and guardians are expected to support the philosophy of the school
  • In the interest of the student’s welfare, medical conditions are made known to the school.
  • The school is provided with the name, address and telephone number of the parent/guardian.
  • The parent or guardian who enrols the student reads our discipline code and gives a written undertaking to uphold it.
  • The parents of the student who do not go home for lunch agree to have them stay on the school grounds during the lunch break.

The following criteria for selection of students will be applied:

  1. Applicants must be girls and 12 years of age on the 1st of January of the school year in which they enrol.
  2. The total enrolment for First Years which Meán Scoil Mhuire can accommodate is 120.
  3. An open night will take place on an evening in November before enrolment. Enrolment forms will be available on the night and must be returned to the school on or before enrolment day. The final day for Enrolment will be a Saturday in December. The open night and final enrolment dates will be posted for 2015 on this page when they have been decided upon.

If the number of applicants from feeder schools exceeds the remaining places available, a lottery system will apply.

Parents will be notified of places available within 20 days of enrolment.
Parents must confirm their acceptance of a place in writing by the specified date.

Failing to confirm acceptance will result in place(s) being given to next applicant on waiting list.

For students on the waiting list, parents have the right to appeal to:

  1. The board of Management
  2. The Secretary General of the D.E.S. under Section 29 of the Education Act 1998.

If there is a waiting list for First Years, it will expire at the end of October of the year they enrol.
