Meánscoil Mhuire Longford

Meán Scoil Mhuire, set in the heart of Longford town, was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1861. Meán Scoil Mhuire is a centre for the formation of youth. It respects the dignity of each person, with her unique background, tradition and beliefs. It provides a disciplined atmosphere in which the pupils can grow and mature.Pupils are exposed to a rich cultural heritage, and acquire knowledge and skills which enable them to understand and respect themselves, others and the environment in which they live.

Choosing the right school for your daughter is probably one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. In an atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect, your daughter will be challenged by an exciting academic curriculum allied to a wealth of sporting and cultural activities. At the core of any great school is its staff  and  Meán Scoil Mhuire's teachers are experienced and highly qualified professionals committed to the holistic development of each student.

We believe that interacting with students and staff is central to understanding what is so special about our School.

Co-Curricular

True education is not just about the acquisition of knowledge, it is learning how to apply that knowledge. So, while the main impetus of our work is on academic achievement we also emphasise the importance of co-curricular activities. For some, these pastimes remain life-time hobbies or interests, for others they provide the basis of a career.

National Flag Ceremony

Mr Costello, Mr Regan, Grace Kenny, Shauna Banet and Ciara Loughlin attended the national Flag Ceremony in Croke Park on Monday March 7th.  Six thousands students from secondary schools throughout the country attended this ceremony which commemorated the events of 1916 and Thomas F Meagher.  After the tri-colour was raised the President Michael D Higgins addressed the students.  In his address he explained the significance of the Irish Flag.  Each school was presented with a commerative folder, a copy of the Proclamation and a tri-colour.  Ryan Tubridy acted as MC and the event was attended by numerous sports stars such as Packie Bonnar, John Hayes and Paddy Barnes. The day proved to be an enjoyable and memorable one for all those who attended.

Green Flag

Our school was presented with the prestigious Green Flag in a ceremony attended by staff and students.  This was the culmination of two years hard work by staff and students.

In Méanscoil Mhuire, as well as a long tradition academic achievement, we encourage a social conscience and promote stewardship in our students. With this in mind we formed a green schools committee, whose goal was to secure a Green Flag for litter and waste. As a result of a waste audit and Questionnaire,we highlighted areas of concern particularly the use of bins In order to encourage recycling we introduced a user -friendly bin system with compartments for general waste, dry mix recyclables -bottles, cans clean paper. This has been successful in increasing recycling in our school.
